The first Fossati English horn was crafted in 1990 with Alain Ripoche, the English horn soloist of Orchestre de Radio France. His intention was to craft an instrument so that that a musician could pass effortlessly between the oboe and the English horn. Mr. Ripoche wanted to make the English horn an instrument for all oboists, not an instrument for specialists. The Fossati craftsmen collaborated with Mr. Ripoche on the development of the Fossati S English horn and the student model Tiery English horn. After Alain Ripoche passed away in 1995, Jean Marc Liet continued his work on the English horns. With Stéphane Guillaume, they made significant advances on the Fossati line of the bocals.
